An early catechetical work, these homilies and reflections by Clement of Alexandria have just as much relevance today as when it was first written. Clement of Alexandria was a scholar who flourished around the turn of the third century and he devoted this work to instructing Christian converts on the nature of the Christian life. This book, the Paidagogos (called here Christ the Educator), was to serve as a guide to Christian living for baptized individuals who were still young in the faith. His instruction on how to live a sober lifestyle of moderation and self-restraint which should characterize every Christian is tied in with Christ's work of educating the soul and our deification in Him. |
